Will I be able to stop using fixative in my dentures?
Most of the time, patients who are currently using fixative can stop. In very difficult cases, we aim at drastically reducing the amount of fixative needed.
I want my face built out but do not want to show a mouthful of teeth, how is that possible?
We place the teeth ourselves at the clinic which means that we move the front teeth so that you show just the right amount of teeth (see photos). The effect is like a non-surgical facelift.
I'd like to stop cutting up my food into small bits, can you give me my bite back?
We use denture teeth based on natural ones, much sharper than traditional denture teeth. We spend a lot of time adjusting the teeth so they can move over each other again during chewing the way natural teeth do giving a much improved bite.
Dentures always look false, how are yours different?
Typical denture teeth are made up of one layer of colour, ie. the same from top to bottom. Our teeth are layered the way natural ones are, so the tips of the teeth are transluscent, and the colour varies within the tooth. In all cases we aim to make our dentures as natural as possible by contouring the acrylic resin to look like natural gingivae, sometimes exposing the necks of the teeth slightly to improve the overall appearance.  We may use porcelain teeth in some cases, like those often used for crown and bridge work.
I have had previous dentures made showing too much or too little tooth, how do you avoid that?
We put the teeth on in wax while the patient is in the chair (rather than the technician doing this off site) and will keep moving the teeth until both the dentist and the patient are pleased with the appearance.
Dental treatment is expensive, how can I pay for it?
You can pay by credit card, cheque or cash.  We ask you to pay as treatment progresses, which can be spread over a timeframe to suite you.  We also offer a 0% finance plan as some clients would rather pay smaller amounts over a period of time rather than a larger upfront fee.  This allows clients to go ahead with treatment and stage their payments.  This works particularly well as even if the full funds are not available initially, treatment can still be started.  For finance plan details, please ask and we will be happy to provide you with more details.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment is spread over 4-6 visits for most dentures. Visits are usually made on a fortnightly basis, unless in special circumstances.  Most clinics can offer evening appointments.
Is treatment painful?
No. We use sprays that minimize any "retching" reaction taking during impressions. We also make sure impressions taken only go as far back as necessary
Can I talk to patients who have had treatment?
We keep books of letters we receive from patients after treatment and also replies to our follow-up questionnaires. We also keep a list of patients who you can talk to - please ask.
Will I have to change dentists?
No. We undertake denture work only at the Denture Clinic. This means that if you need any work doing to your own natural teeth, we will refer you back to your own dentist for this.
How long will the dentures last for?
To generalize we normally say between 5-10 years. In the case of complete dentures, this will depend on how quickly the gums change which varies from person to person. With partial dentures the condition of the remaining teeth is critical. Sometimes one can add to the existing denture but major changes can require a new denture being made.
Can I come and get some professional advice without paying anything?
Yes. We offer an initial free half hour consultation. You will receive a detailed examination and we will talk to you about all your concerns and expectations. You will then be given an estimated treatment cost and can decide whether you want to proceed or not. There is no obligation to do so.
